Hello World!
I wanted to dedicate this week's topic to mindfulness. What is mindfulness? In my opinion, it is a state of being. It is a state of centering one's sense in a world full of craziness. I first found out about mindfulness from a therapist I had back in 2018. Things weren't meshing right between us and I no longer see her but, she did give me an amazing takeaway, mindfulness.
According to Merriam-Webster Mindfulness is:
1: the quality or state of being mindful
2: the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis
also: such a state of awareness
To me, mindfulness has been super helpful. It has been something that is extremely beneficial to my mental health. When I have my highs and I am manic, this helps to ground me. When I am at my low and am depressed, this helps to lift me up. It helps me balance myself out. I think what is most helpful about mindfulness is that it teaches me how to slow down my breathing. When I can slow down my breathing my thoughts stop racing, and I can focus. Once I can focus on one thing anything is possible. I am trying to get my friends and family into mindfulness because I think it can be so so soooo beneficial. Because I love all of you, I have included three mindfulness videos that I use!
Gratitude Meditation: I use this every morning when I wake up. It's a reminder that I should be grateful to be alive, and grateful to have a day with new and exciting challenges.
Driving to Work: This is kind of self-explanatory. I use this on my drive to work but I also use it for my drive to school. It is a way for me to clear my head and to be relaxed before I step foot in the door of work or on campus.
Driving From Work: This is also self-explanatory. I use this on my way home from work or school. I am trying to work on not carrying the stress of the day with me and this definitely helps. It's 18 minutes long and my commute is roughly 20-25 minutes long, so I'll play this a few minutes into my commute so I am in the right headspace.
I hope this was somewhat helpful! I love mindfulness meditation and I hope you will too!
Another day as an adult (namaste).....damn,
Tasha
